Maramma Temple tragedy: DSS demands SIT probe

Mysuru, January 11:- Mysuru District Dalita Sangharsha Samithi (DSS) staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Thursday, demanding thorough investigation into the Kichuguth Sulvadi Maramma Temple at Hanur taluk in Chamarajanagar District tragedy where 17 devotees died following consumption of poisoned food. They demanded Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the incident.

They appealed for capital punishment for Immadi Mahadevaswamy who is the mastermind behind the food poisoning. They alleged that no seers and pontiffs of state are raising their voice against such dastardly acts. They demanded stringent action against Immadi Mahadevaswamy and his accomplices, and said the government would be responsible if the accused escape from punishment.

“The accused have played with the lives of devotees. This has made the devotees to be scared to visit temples. As the accused are powerful, they can get away without being punished. They should not be given bail and their properties should be seized. SIT or other special department should investigate the incident,” the protesters said.

Samithi district president Choranahalli Shivanna, Mudalli Mahadev, Kiranguru Swamy and others were present. (KS, NGB)
