Mass marriage: 178 couples get married at Suttur fair

Mysuru, January 22:- Mass marriages are held during Suttur Adi Jagadguru Shivaratrishwara Shivayogi fair every year. This year too, mass marriage was organised at Suttur on Wednesday.

The event was inaugurated by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda in the presence of seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Dr D Veerendra Heggade, seer Mummadi Nirvana of Kanakapura. The couples were provided with mangalsutra, dhoti, shirt and saree.

Joint secretary of Rashtriya Swayamsevaka Sangha (RSS) Mukund administered the oath of marriage. The couples tied knots at the auspicious muhurta at 12 noon.

Six couples from  SC, 10 from ST, 11 from Lingayat community and 33 from backward community tied the knot. There were also 18 inter-caste marriages. Two pairs of widows also got married. Thousands of people attended the mass marriage and blessed the couples. (MR/KS)
