Mysuru, July 17:- Masterclass series-a faculty driven knowledge sharing sessions is an outreach activity of MYRA School of Business, Mysore to share the thought leadership of our faculty to the interested public at large.
Dr David Patient, the Associate Dean & Academic Director for the Lisbon MBA at Católica Lisbon, Portugal and the visiting faculty of MYRA conducted an interesting Masterclass on ‘Power and Influence’ – the third in its sequence of lectures this year.MYRA School of Business has partnered with the Hindu to offer these sessions alternate Saturdays every month.
Dr Patient began his session providing an overview and understanding of ‘power and influence’ dynamics and learning to use them as effective tools for analysing and better comprehending ones surrounding while charting a path to achieve ones goals.
He then went about explaining on how to get things done in the real world, where politics and personalities often seem to hinder rather than help you. Power and Influence is an elective course at MYRA where PGDM and post experience PGPX students learn how to make things happen, despite the obstacles that might stand in your way. This course also helps students unearth their implicit theories and feelings about power and influence. These have a profound impact on how you perceive problems and opportunities, and subsequently, how you decide upon particular courses of action.
At the Masterclass, Dr Patient briefly touched upon conceptual models, tactical approaches, self-assessment tools and simulation exercises to help the attendees develop your own influence style and understand political dynamics as they unfold around them. By focusing on specific expressions of power and influence, he provided an overview to judge the effective and ineffective uses of power in different organizational contexts and career stages – laying on experience with IBM at Calgary, Canada.
Delivering the concluding address and the vote of thanks – Dr Abhinanda Sarkar also touch based on how to leverage personal, positional, and relational power bases through influence tactics that fit individual and situational needs. Dr Sarkar also briefly provided an overview on MYRA’s forthcoming EMBA and Executive Education programs in academic partnership with Cambridge Judge Business School to eager Bangaloreans. The next Masterclass is schedules for July 22, 2017. Registrations at http://www.myra.ac.in/masterclass
