Mysuru Mayor, Deputy Mayor election on January 18

Mysuru, January 7:- Regional Commissioner has set January 18 as the date for the elections for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).

Candidates may submit their nominations for the election till 9:30 am on the day of the election. After verifying the nominations, if it is necessary, the election will be held after 11:30 am. Along with mayor and deputy mayor, presidents for four Standing Committees will also be elected. Candidates have to submit their nominations to the Council Secretary at the new council auditorium. Corporators from MCC general wards who want to contest the election under reservation have to get caste certificate from the tahsildar and submit it, said election officer, Regional Commissioner Yashwanth.

The MCC with a total 65 corporators has 22 from Bharatiya Janata Party, 19 from Congress, 18 from Janata Dal (Secular), 5 others and a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) corporator. Like the previous term, Congress – JD(S) coalition will continue in the MCC. JD(S) will get mayor’s post and Congress that of deputy mayor.

Lobby increases for the posts

Aspirants for mayor and deputy mayor’s posts in JD(S) and Congress have been lobbying for the post. Corporators from backward community A, Namrata Ramesh, Nirmala Harish, Reshma Banu, Tasnim are eyeing the plum post. Namrata and Nirmala have been urging their leaders to give the mayor’s post to Kuruba community this time.

Congress is also facing enough lobbying for deputy mayor’s post. Corporators from SC community, Pradeep Chandra, Sathyaraju, Sridhar are eyeing the post. A woman candidate from Ashokapuram is also trying her luck.

Congress corporator Ayaz Pasha alias Pandu has raised voice of dissent in the party. He said that he and his fellow members are being neglected as they are the supporters of Narasimharaja Constituency MLA Tanveer Sait and threatened to quit Congress if he doesn’t get Standing Committee chairman’s post.
