Mayoral elections near as the present team’s term ends on Nov 16

Mysuru, October 26:- The term of Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath and Deputy Mayor Shafi Ahmed comes to an end on November 16. The strategies for mayor – deputy mayor election will also begin along with the by-election.

Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) are holding power in Mysuru City Corporation (MCC). Whether the coalition will continue for the mayoral election is the question doing rounds. Congress and JD(S) have broken alliance in the state already. Urban Development Department will announce the reservation for the mayor and deputy mayor’s election. The polls will be held as directed by the regional commissioner. Pushpalatha Jagannath and Shafi Ahmed had taken charge as mayor and deputy mayor on November 17, 2018.

Along with the mayor and deputy mayor polls, the election will also be held for the four standing committees of MCC. The code of conduct for the by-election will also have an impact on the mayor’s election. If the code of conduct comes into effect, main election will be held only after the by-election. Pushpalatha Jagannath may continue as the mayor till then. (MR/KS)
