Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) council approved various SC and ST welfare works under 24.10 programmes with a budget of rupees 21.67 crore on Thursday.
The Council meeting held on Thursday afternoon witnessed a heated debate between the ruling and the opposition parties over allocation of funds for the city wards under the 24.10 programmes for SC and ST where SFC will provide rupees 10.84 crore while MCC will provide its share of rupees 10.82 crore. Where 40% of amount is utilised for various works and 60% was earmarked for community programmes. The MCC Council also gave the nod to take up welfare programmes for disabled persons at a cost of rupees 2.69 crore under 3% scheme and for backward communities under 7.25% scheme at a cost of rupees 6.51 crores.
Corporator H V Srikantaiah said that funds are not distributed as per the norms and should be reviewed. BJP Corporator Shylendra alleged that the action plan is anti-dalit and said that mayor and a few other corporators are prejudiced against the people belonging to backward communities and dalits in city must be benefited from this programme. However, amidst oppositions, Mayor B L Bhyrappa approved the action plan.
On the occasion, new corporator K P Ashwini from ward 58 who won the by-poll election as independent candidate took oath in the name of her husband Ananthu. Mayor B L Bhyrappa administered the oath.
