MCC gets HC notice for non-compliance

Mysuru, February 23:- A division bench of the High Court of Karnataka, headed by Justice B V  Nagarathna and  Justice M G Uma on Monday (February 22) took note of non-formation of Ward Committees and Area Sabhas in Mysuru City Corporation limits under Section 13C and 13D of KMC Act, despite several orders issued by the High Court in this regard.

It issued notices to the state and MCC Commissioner for filing objections and fixed the matter for further hearing on March 13.  The PIL petition has been filed by Malavika Gubbivani of Aam Admi Party, G R Vidyaranya and Janardhana Chennagiri, all from Mysuru.

It may be recalled that upon orders of HC, in Mangaluru City Corporation, Ward Committees and Area Sabhas were constituted. Many of the municipal corporations including Mysuru city are yet to implement the same even after the enactment of the Act in 2011.  S Umapathi and K. Sudha, of Lex Group Bengaluru, are the advocates for the petitioners. (MR/GK)
