Officials of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) raided the shops at Dasara exhibition and seized plastics close to 150 kg.
The MCC officials, led by the MCC Commissioner J Jagadeesha, conducted the raid on Thursday evening. They inspected textile shops, food joints, chat centres and other shops and seized the plastic carry bags stored in the shops. A prior intimation had been given to the shopkeepers before setting up the shops as not to use plastic carry bags.
Speaking to the media after the raid, Jagadeesha said: “Plastic carry bags are banned in Mysuru. We have clearly instructed the shopkeepers not to use plastic bags. They still have been using plastic carry bags. We carried out this raid after we received complaints from the public regarding the use of plastic at the exhibition. If they continue using plastic, they will be fined.”
MCC Commissioner of Revenue Kumar Naik, Health Officer Dr Ramachandra, environmental engineer of MCC Naseema Anjum, Ashok and others took part in the raid.
