Mysuru, November 15:- Beware Mysureans! Think twice before you use plastic items. Using banned plastic items in the city will attract fine of up to Rs 25,000.
According to sources, the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) is mulling to introduce new rules with respect to using of banned plastic items in Mysuru.
Using of banned plastic items will attract fines ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 and the manufacturers will be fined up to Rs 2 lakh and may face criminal cases.
The MCC, in an effort to control the menace of plastic use in city, is contemplating to bring in new rules to regulate the trade.
As per the provisions in the order, the manufacturers will be fined Rs 10, 000 for the first time, Rs 2 lakh for the second offence and face criminal case if they are caught the next time. The stockists of banned plastic items will be fined Rs 50, 000 for the first time, Rs 1,00,000 for the repeat offence. Whoever transports the banned plastic items will have to cough up a fine of Rs 25,000 and at the second offence, Rs 50,000. People who use banned plastic items will have to pay a penalty of Rs 10,000 for the first offence and Rs 25,000 for the repeat offence.
However, MCC has exempted the industries situated in Special Economic Zone (SEZ) which produce plastic items for export purpose, plastic use in nurseries, packing in milk and milk products.
Banned plastic items include plastic carry bags, posters, banners, flexes, plastic flags, plates, glasses, spoons, table spreads.
