Media needs to change its approach: Pandit Taranath

Mysuru, March 19:- Journalists winning media academy awards were felicitated by Mysuru District Journalists’ Association (MDJA) on Monday.

Sarod maestro Pandit Taranath felicitated the award winners and said that the dimensions of media need to be changed and said they have to give emphasis to music and scholars as they give to cricket and politics.

“Universities do not have the values they had earlier. Piteel Chowdaiah, Veene Sheshanna and other renowned musicians came to limelight when there were no music varsities. Today there is a dedicated university for music but no good musicians are coming out. A country like the United States invites Indian musicians to know more about music. But the music university in Mysuru says it doesn’t get music graduates. It shows how it works just for namesake and nothing else,” he added.

Resident editor of ‘Prajavani’ K J Mariyappa, executive editor of ‘Star of Mysore’ Meera Appaiah and Alfred Solomon of ‘Andolana Kannada’ daily were felicitated.

Media academy member K Shivakumar, president of the association C K Mahendra, secretary Lokesh Babu and others were present. (MR/KMR).
