Memorial not at the cost of NTM School: Mysuru Kannada Vedike

Prime News, National, Karnataka, Education, Children, Memorial, Mysuru, July 13:-The long-drawn battle to save the historical NTM School on Narayan Shastry Road here, entered its 16th day on Tuesday (July 13). Mysuru Kannada Vedike staged a signature campaign in support of the school.

The protesters, who had gathered in large numbers at the school premises, said, “In the name Vivekananda memorial, how right is it to demolish the school which is 140 years old? Let us not politicise a simple issue for the sake of making news. We request the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to intervene and do the needful.”

They said, “The school was started by the Mysore Royal family more than 100 years back and it has a rich history. The famous Sri Ramakrishna Mutt wanting to build a memorial at the cost of the school is not in good taste. Swami Vivekananda advocated education as a tool to eradicate poverty and superstition.  He was of the opinion that any country can prosper if its education system is good. A good society can be built on education and not on a memorial.”

The protesters said, “Shivakumara Swami of Siddaganga Mutt implemented Vivekananda’s principle in toto and offered free education and food to lakhs of poor students. Sri Ramakrishna Mutt should have learned a lesson or two from Siddaganga Mutt. The focus should be on good education and not memorial. Retaining the school in its present condition will be a tribute to the Royal family.”

Mysuru Kannada Vedike president S Balakrishna, writer Bannur K Raju, Bogadi Siddegowda, Palace Babu, Gopi, Beeda Babu, Aravind, Madan, Malini, Kaveeramma, Rekha, Madappa, Girish, Srinivas, Mahadevaswamy, Siddappa LIC, Govindaraju, Kapanigowda, Nagaraj, Shivappa, Kiran, Basavaraju, Yogi, P Mallesh and other leaders were present. (MR/KS)
