Mid-day meal: Poor quality dal and rice make it to Govt Schools

Mysuru, January 31:- In a country of a 130-crore population, it is the corruption which rules the roost. Mid-day Meal Scheme is for the benefit of poor Government School students. Imagine when these students are forced to eat poor quality food full of worms. It is shocking but true. It is alleged that the officials are supplying poor quality food grains for the mid-day meals at Government Schools in H D Kote.

It is said that none of the 304 schools in H D Kote taluk is receiving good quality food grains. Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa introduced Mid-day Meal Scheme to provide nutritious food to students at Government Schools in 2009. Dal and rice supplied to these unfortunate schools in the last two months are of poor quality with full of worms.

Looking at the poor quality of rice, students refused to consume food. When the director of Akshara Dasoha Scheme, Siddaraju questioned the concerned official, he said the food grains were supplied by KFD and there is nothing much he could do about it. It is not the plight of one or two schools, but of each and every school in H D Kote taluk. Villagers have also alleged that the officials are not supplying the right quantity. (MR/KS)
