“Your progress is our concern and focus” thus said Professor of the Department of Library and Information Science (MyDLIS), University of Mysore, Dr Shalini R Urs while presenting the objective of initiating ‘Workshop on Presenting Yourself’ series by Mysore University Information and Library Science Alumni Association (MILAN) and Mysore University Library and Information Science Students Association (MULISSA) at MyDLIS recently.
Dr Shalini Urs urged students to create their own personal brand and put their best foot forward. To enable them in this aspect, the workshop series has being initiated, she informed. Dr Shalini stressed on honing the subject knowledge and exposure to library management to be strong in hard skills. To make themselves industry-ready, they should possess soft skills which help in getting them placed, further greatly help in professional & personality development.
The workshop series was launched with a talk on ‘How to prepare Resume” by Sone Selvavinayagam. The resource person Sone started on the topic ‘How to create a good resume’. The nuances of writing a good resume were discussed in detail. There were many queries from the audience as they needed clarifications for their doubts about writing the resume. As the student audience were in the final semester of the post-graduate programme, this workshop provided them a valuable exposure to resume writing.
Sone pointed out some of the limitations in the resumes already submitted by them. The discussion on improvising was made in comparison with the model resume.
