‘Mining at Baby Betta not affecting KRS Dam’

Mysuru, December 14:- Stone Crusher Owners’ Association has said that it would permanently stop mining at Baby Betta if it affects KRS Reservoir in Mandya District.

“The mining was stopped at Baby Betta three months ago. We heard the sound of explosives twice during this period. It had covered a distance of 80 km. It has not affected KRS Dam,” said the vice- president of the association B M Nataraj here on Friday.

“The Wadiyars of Mysuru have given 120 acres of land to the labourers who constructed the KRS Reservoir in 1950 for mining. Around 33 owners have been doing mining as per the permission of the state government since 1960. About 40,000 people depend on mining. Mining takes place at 7,000 acres of land. The state has lost Rs 4-5,000 crore because of this.  Without opposing it, the mining here is being opposed. If there’s any harm to any temple, let them prove it with documents,” he added.

Krishnappa, Ramesh, Krishnegowda and others were present. (MR/KMR).
