District In-charge Minister V Srinivasa Prasad lauded the rise in the number of graduates in the country.
He was speaking after felicitating newly-appointed KSOU Vice Chancellor Prof D Shivalingaiah, organised on Tuesday.
Emphasising the contribution of the architect of the Indian Constitution, he said that the 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar was being celebrated in a meaningful manner in order to create more awareness among people on the importance of education.
Ambedkar’s stress on education as the tool towards growth and empowerment for people from backward classes should not be forgotten, he said.
And he further noted that people from backward classes were able to make strides in all fields now despite numerous hurdles owing to Ambedkar’s struggle for equality and justice and for being the beacon of hope for the downtrodden.
Rise in the number of graduates was a sign of healthy democracy, the minister added.
He said that Prof D Shivalingaiah is academically tuned and adept in administration. Moreover, coming from a backward community he will be able to understand the aspirations of students from all strata of the society and thus his appointment as the vice chancellor is a laudable decision, he noted.
MLA P M Narendraswamy, MP R Dhruvanarayan and former minister S A Ramdas were present.
