Mysuru, March 26:- Trust our netas to flout rules. If there are any rules, they are only for the common man and our ministers and many of our MLAs are so powerful, they are treated with impunity! Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh was at his adamant-best on Monday when he was rightly questioned by a cop on duty. He got the head constable suspended for stopping his private car which violated Section 144 and entered a place where there was no permission.
The incident happened when the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition candidate C H Vijayashankar was filing his nomination at the District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office. The minister had come in his private vehicle from Devaraja Urs Road junction to the DC’s office where section 144 is in force. Unaware that it was minister’s car, the head constable of Kuvempunagar Police Station, Venkatesh rightly stopped the vehicle. Enraged by this, Mahesh immediately called the Commissioner of Police K T Balakrishna and got the head constable suspended.
“Rules and laws are one and the same for everyone in the country. Everyone has to follow the rules. If the rules can’t be followed, then what is the need of having one?” people, who were witness to the whole drama, were left wondering.
This is not the first time Mahesh is showing his high-handedness. When he had come to attend the funeral ceremony of Dr Shivakumara Swamiji in Tumakuru in January, he had misbehaved rudely with a woman police officer which left her in tears. He was ridiculed for his behaviour back then as well. Now, again he has got one head constable suspended for no mistake of his.
Minister pretty well knows Section 144 is in force near the DC’s office for security reasons. Doesn’t he know he is also a common man when it comes to rules and regulations? (MR/KS)
