Minor ties knot with girl five years older, parents seek custody of boy

As the age old saying goes ‘Love is blind,’ here’s an incident wherein the groom is still a minor and yet has tied the knot with his lady love, a 24-year-old bride, in the city.

The law in our country clearly stipulates that the groom must be 21 years of age and the bride 18 years, to enter into wedlock. However, in this case, the groom who is 19 has married a 24-year-old woman by exchanging flower garlands at Sathyanarayana Temple on Sayyaji Rao Road in the city. Both are residents of Mandi Mohalla, here.

Now the boy’s parents are knocking the doors of Mandi Police Station claiming that their son was forcibly married to a girl who was five years older than him. In a complaint to the police, the parents say that their son is still a minor and he should be handed over their custody.

A case has been registered at the police station and further investigations are on. –KS, NGB
