MKV asks state govt to shelve this year’s Mysuru Dasara festival

Mysuru, October 8:- Citing the coronavirus pandemic that has killed scores of people, Mysuru Kannada Vedike on Wednesday (October 7) asked the state government to shelve this year’s Mysuru Dasara festival.

MKV volunteers, who were protesting near the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the city, said “The pandemic situation is precarious in the state. Compared to other districts, Mysuru is reporting more coronavirus cases and deaths. They are misusing the funds in the name of celebrating Dasara festival. The entire city is being lit for the festival. Instead of wasting Rs 15 crore on ‘Nada Habba,’ why not start more Covid Care Centres to treat more and more people? The ministers and officials, who talk of government guidelines, are openly flouting them. It is likely that tourists, policemen and home guards may contract the virus which could be disastrous. Will the state government take care of their expenses in case there is a problem? It makes sense in celebrating the festival in a simple manner within the Mysuru Palace premises at least this year.”

MKV president  S Balakrishna, Nalabidi Ravi, Bogadi Siddegowda, Gurubasappa, Palace Babu, Aravind, Bida Babu, Parisaru Chandru, Sunil, Swamygowda, Mahadevaswamy and others were present. (MR/KS)
