MLA Harshavardhan hails BJP’s Draupadi Murmu move

Prime News, National, Constitution, Democracy, Elections, Politics, Women, Mysuru, June 24:- Nanjangud BJP MLA B Harshavardhan has said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government has taken the right decision in selecting Draupadi Murmu as the nominee for the presidential election. “The decision goes well with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s philosophy – Sabka Saath, Sakba Vikas aur Sabka Vishwas.”

In a media statement, the MLA, who represents a reserved constituency in the Legislative Assembly, said only a party that is accommodative in nature can take such a decision that is inclusive.

“She will be the first woman belonging to the tribal community to occupy the top Constitutional office post if she is elected. The MPs, cutting across party lines, must endorse her candidature. She must be elected unopposed on July 18. This would be the right way to respect and admire a woman for her calibre,”  Harshavardhan said.

“I congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for taking the decision to field her when the country is celebrating the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence. Since Indian independence, the tribals have been denied their rights. But I am now happy and proud that you have created an opportunity for Murmu to contest for the top constitutional post,” he said.

“Her experience in public life is very impressive. Hailing from Odisha, she began as a teacher before entering politics. She was a panchayat member, twice an MLA on a BJP ticket, and then went on to become the first woman cabinet minister in the BJP-BJD coalition government, the governor of Jharkhand. Her personal tragedies never stopped her from performing in public service.

“Murmu is an inspiration to many in the community to strive for the welfare of the downtrodden. She is indeed a role model not just for women but even for men in public life,” the MLA said. (MR)
