Mysuru, June 19:- Chamaraja Constituency Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA L Nagendra paid a surprise visit to Cheluvamba Hospital in the city and inspected the hospital facilities on Tuesday.
Following media reports on the shortage of beds to accommodate pregnant women at Cheluvamba Hospital, Nagendra took stock of the status on in-patients admission and other facilities extended to the patients.
During his visit, he found that many of the in-patients who are generally pregnant women were seen sleeping on floors due to shortage of beds. He instructed the officers on duty to call the Superintendent of the hospital who was not present during his visit.
Nagendra gathered more information regarding the shortage of beds from hospital employee Gangamma and questioned her as to why the issue was not brought to the notice of higher authority.
Speaking to media persons, Nagendra said, “The government hospital aims to provide timely treatment to the people who are mostly from the rural background. I have found that there is a shortage of beds to treat the in-patients at the hospital. I will convene a meeting with the hospital authorities and gather more information on this and write a letter to the Health Minister and urge him to address the issue.”
“Have found that many of the pregnant women were sleeping on the floor with their newborn babies and have instructed the staffs on duty to take necessary steps to ensure beds to all the in-patients as the chances of getting infection is high during monsoon,” he added.
Cheluvamba Hospital is the maternity hospital located at the premises of government run KR Hospital and the pregnant woman mostly from rural areas in the district avail the health facilities. Hundreds of women get admitted to the Cheluvamba Hospital every day. -(KK)
