The Mysuru Dasara 2016 will be conducted on a moderate level in view of the inadequate rainfall in the catchment areas of river Cauvery, said District In-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, here on Tuesday.
Addressing media persons after chairing the first meeting of the Dasara Executive Committee at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the minister said Nadoja poet Channaveera Kanavi will inaugurate the 2016 Dasara festivities atop Chamundi Hills onb October 1.
Dr Mahadevappa said that this year’s Dasara will be celebrated moderate level at an estimate of Rs 14.25 crore including the Dasara celebrations at Chamarajanagar (Rs 1.50 crore) and Srirangapattana (Rs 50 lakh). The state government will approve the estimate soon, he added.
The first batch of twelve Dasara elephants will leave for Mysuru from Hunsur on August 21 and they will be received in Mysuru on August 26 with special traditional pujas, said Dr Mahadevappa.
In addition, the ‘Yuva Dasara’ will be re-introduced in this year’s Dasara, Dr Mahadevappa said and added that Kavi Goshti Mahila and Makkala Dasara, Dasara, Raitha and Grameena Dasara, Samskrtuhika Dasara, Lalithakala Dasara, Ahara Mela, Dasara Film Festival will also be held.
The minister said a separate committee will be constituted to monitor and promote tourism in Mysuru as the heritage city has retained the ‘cleanest city’ for the second year in succession. Tourism promotion activities will be held three months before and after the commencement of the Dasara festivities; pre-Dasara events will be held at K R Nagar, Periyapattana and Hunsur while the post-Dasara events will be conducted at T Narasipur, Nanjangud and H D Kote, he added.
Dasara 2016 will be held on the theme ‘Water conservation’ due to the scanty rainfall in catchment areas of river Cauvery and Malnad region, Dr Mahadevappa said.
He said the small planes and helicopters will be introduced in the Mysuru sector for convenience of tourists on getting approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, New Delhi, on which the state government is working.
“Palace on Wheels’ will engage in promotion of various palaces like the Mysuru Palace, Jaganmohan Palace, Aloka Palace,” the minister said. The official website of Dasara 2016 will be launched on August 16, he added.
Meanwhile, Minister for Tourism Priyank Kharge said that ‘Outreach programmes on promotion of tourism in Mysuru and Karnataka will be held in Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi, Chennai and other prominent cities and also at all the international airports in the country.
