More construction workers should attend skill development training programme: AC Thammanna

Mysuru, November 9:- Assistant Commissioner of Labour Department A C Thammanna expressed dissatisfaction over the poor attendance of labourers for the skill development training programme.

He was speaking at the valedictory session of skill development training programme for labourers organised jointly in association with Karnataka Building And Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, Labour Department, District Administration, and Nirmiti Kendra on Friday.

“We organised this training programme to make our construction labourers more skilled. The training has been held for one month. 32 construction labourers and others were trained here for a month. We have registered 59,000 construction labourers in the district. Despite having invited them for the skill development training programme, the response from the labourers is poor. We expected a big number of labourers to attend such training programme, but very few of them evinced interest. Technology gets updated every now and then, but labourers continue to work in the same pattern. The government introduces so many programmes for the welfare of labourers and they have to make use of it. When the labourers get trained well, they can implement the new skills in their day-to-day work,” he added.

Kits were distributed to the labourers on the occasion.

BIA officer Subrahmanya, Manjunath M T, H B Satish, Geetha and others were present. (GK, NGB)
