The department of Library and Information Science Studies had organised the inauguration of MULISA (Mysore University Library and Science Students’ Association) on Friday evening.
Prof Lingaraja Gandhi, director of PMEB inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address, he stressed the importance of libraries by saying learning is not only limited to classroom and the discussion and sharing of information with the teachers. Libraries in a way do the work of a teacher. They unite all the students. There would be no university that exists without a good library.
“We are living in the era of information. We get any information we need in a flash with the help of technology. We should utilize this by accumulating more knowledge with the help of internet and books. Continuous study and continuous effort leads to a better future,” he said.
He quoted Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s saying, “Dream is something that does not let you sleep” and inspired the students to dream big and work towards the success.
Deputy director of the public library department, B Manjunath advised students not to read just for the cause of getting a job, achieving something big should be the goal of everyone.
Chairperson of the department of Library and Information Science, Shalini Urs, Prof M Chandrasekhar, Secretary M Rajesh were present.
