Mysuru is always a special place:  Doddarangegowda

Janachethana Trust, Msuru district Kannada Sahitya Parishath and Lions club jointly organised felicitation to renowned poet and lyricist Dr Doddarangegowda at Kalamandir on Friday evening. ‘Halli Haida’, a souvenir was released on the occasion to mark the 70th birthday of Doddarangegowda.

“It is a privilege to share the stage with a great poet. It is wrong to compare the melodies Doddarangegowda has written for the movies with the film songs now. Poetries of Doddarangegowda which were questioning the credibility of the politicians should be posted on social media as an answer to what the ministers watch on Whatsapp during a stage programme,” said poet Pradip Kumar Hebri, after inaugurating the programme.

“My father wanted me to be a scientist. But I wanted to be a social scientist and took up pen to make an attempt to solve the problems of the society. My father has passed on a beautiful culture to me,” said Doddarangegowda. He recalled the folk songs and his decision to follow the path set by Kuvempu.

The poet expressed his happiness over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to demonetise the old currency notes and also requested the state government not to construct the steel bridge at the cost of the trees. “I have been felicitated in India and abroad, but the felicitation at Mysuru is ever memorable and special,” he said.

District Kasapa President Dr Y D Rajanna, President of Janachethana trust Prasanna N Gowda, Dr C Naganna, Editor of the souvenir ‘Halli Haida’ Champavathi Shivanna, CPK and others were present on the occasion. Singer Supriya Raghunandan and team presented the songs written Dr Doddarangegowda after the felicitation.
