Prime News, Karnataka, Politics, Mysuru, September 25:- As part of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s 105th birth anniversary here on Saturday (September 25), Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mahila Morcha felicitated Mysuru Mayor Sunanda Palanetra.
Upadhyaya’s portrait was garlanded followed by a felicitation ceremony. Born on this day in 1916 in Mathura, Upadhyay was a founder member of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, the progenitor to the BJP.
Chamaraja Constituency MLA L Nagendra said, “For the first time in the history of Mysuru City Corporation, a BJP councillor has become the Mayor. It is a special occasion that we are felicitating her.”
Recalling Upadhyaya’s contribution, he said, “It was he who built the BJP. It was his great efforts that we are able to see our party coming to power. With a proud feeling, we are celebrating his birth anniversary. The great leader would always mention that no one in the country should starve.”
Recalling mayoral elections, Nagendra said, “Sunanda could become Mayor because of the efforts of so many people. Till the last minute, nothing was certain but luck favoured us finally.”
BJP state general secretary Siddaraju, BJP city president T S Srivatsa, BJP Mahila Morcha president Hema Nandish, Mysuru in-charge Gopal Raje Urs, Mahila Morcha working member Lakshmi Kiran Gowda, Mahila Morcha state in-charge Vijayalakshmi, MCC member Vedavathi, Renuka Raj and Nagarathna Gowda were present.
