Prime News, Karnataka, Sports, Cricket, Mysuru, August 5:- Mysuru Warriors powered by Cycle Pure Agarbathi from NR Group on Friday (August 5) announced its team for Maharaja Trophy T-20 Cricket Tournament (formerly known as Karnataka Premier League) to be held in Mysuru and Bengaluru from August 7 to 26.
Karun Nair was selected as the team captain. The 30-year-old talented batsman made his international debut during India’s limited-overs cricket tour to Zimbabwe, where he played in a few one-day international matches. Karun Nair became India’s only second triple-centurion after Virender Sehwag in 2016 when he accomplished the milestone against England in his second Test match.
“After the two year break due to the pandemic, it is quite motivating to see the enthusiasm and excitement of our team members. I am confident that team Mysuru Warriors will excel under the able captaincy of Karun. K L Ashwat has done a wonderful selection and with the likes of P V Shashikant and Akshay bringing so many years of experience, the boys have a confident and able coach to guide them through the tournament. I am quite excited about these matches, said Arjun Ranga, Managing Director, Cycle Pure Agarbathi and owner of Mysuru Warriors.
“NR Group has always supported such a cause and sports, especially cricket is worshipped in India and when you think of worship, you think of Cycle Brand Agarbathi”, he added.
On being selected as the team captain of Mysuru Warriors, Karun Nair says, “It’s a privilege to lead the team for Maharaja Trophy T20. I am confident that we are going to put up some great performances for all our stakeholders and fans.”
P V Shashikant has been appointed as the head coach. He is an Indian former first-class cricketer who played for Karnataka from 1987/88 to 1996/97. He captained Karnataka to victory in Moin-ud-Dowlah Gold Cup Tournament in 1994 and 1996-1997. He won the Irani Trophy for Karnataka against Rest of India. In April 2017, he was appointed head coach of the Karnataka senior team and in 2018, he was appointed as the coach of Mizoram cricket team by BCCI.
Looking forward to being with the team on the training field, says Shashikant and further adds that “The team has entrusted me with a huge responsibility and he is confident to live up to the expectations. Being associated with a team like Mysuru Warriors serves double purpose, the first being able to groom and coach the talented players and to be associated with the reason of bringing everyone together for the love of cricket. I know they have the passion and desire to improve every day. I look forward to working with the players and the support staff to achieve our potential.”
K L Akshay is the assistant coach for the tournament, K L Ashwath is the selector, T Manjunath is the physiotherapist, Irfanullah Khan is trainer and Kiran K is the video Analyst.
