Mysuru zoo gets lioness from Gujarat

Sri Jayachamarajendra Zoological Gardens in city has received a six-year old lioness, Renita from Sakkarbaug Zoo in Gujarat, under the animal exchange programme on Thursday.

In exchange for lioness, the Sakkarbaug Zoo has recieved a wolf and four birds which include exotic species of birds like black swans, sun conure and an Indian grey wolf.

Now, with the addition of Renita, the population of lions has increased to four with Asiatic female lion Gowri and Afro-Asiatic lions Darshan and Rakshitha.

According to zoo sources, Renita will be released for public viewing in a week’s time as she is yet to recover from the stress and strain due to a five-day-long journey from Sakkarbaug Zoo in Junagadh, Gujarat.
