Mysuru, June 5:- “Birth anniversary of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar can be observed as Good Governance Day or felicitate those who have achieved well in governance,” opined titular king Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Thursday (June 4).

He was speaking at the award distribution event held at Vijnana Bhavan in Manasagangothri of the University of Mysore to mark Nalvadi Jayanti organised by Anveshana Trust.

“We observe Sir M Visvesvaraya’s birthday as Engineers’ Day. Nalvadi’s birth anniversary can be observed as Good Governance Day. I congratulate everyone who has been felicitated today,” he said.

“Birth anniversary of Nalvadi is a special occasion for us. UoM doesn’t start functioning without remembering him every day. He started UoM in 1916. Before that, Maharaja College was affiliated to the University of Madras. The king decided to start a university in Mysuru in 1914. Madras University didn’t allow starting a new university in Mysuru. After two years, even Sir MV negotiated on behalf of the king. Later, the university was started in 1916,” said Vice-Chancellor of UoM, Prof G Hemanth Kumar.

“We observe July 27 as the Founding Day of the university. But this time, we will have to observe it in a simple way due to coronavirus pandemic. Contributions of Nalvadi can be seen in each and every field. He created a brand for Mysuru,” he added.
