Nanjangud MLA Harshavardhan objects to toll collection on NH 766

Provide facilities to people before collecting toll fee, says Harshavardhan

Mysuru, December 26:- Nanjangud MLA B Harshavardhan has objected to collecting toll on Mysuru-Nanjangud Highway unscientifically without providing any amenities to the localities.

He was speaking at the KDP meeting held at Nanjangud Mini Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday.

“Even after 3 years of completion of National Highway 766, no proper facilities are provided to the local people. Even before a year of the road work completion, roads are full of potholes and major circles are in a bad shape,” he said.

“No precautionary measures have been taken at danger zones. High tension electric wire in the middle of the new bridge of Kapila River is not yet removed. The highway does not have electricity connection for street lights. The road is totally unsafe during the night. Then for what purpose are you collecting the toll fee from vehicles? It is your responsibility to provide amenities before collecting toll,” the MLA told AEE of National Highway Authority Jagadish.

He said that the tender period of the tender holder Dileep Buildcon was completed by January and the authority has been giving Rs 1.2 crore for the maintenance of the road. He said that the company is not maintaining the road since January.

The MLA instructed the authorities not to collect toll fee till proper facilities are provided to the public. He also instructed them to provide a drainage system on bypass road of National Highway 150A. President of Town Municipal Council Karibasavaiah said that the council would continue the maintenance of the drainage once the drainages are constructed and handed over to them.

Taluk Panchayat president BS Mahadevappa, vice president Govindarajan, Zilla Panchayat members Latha Siddashetty, Pushpa, Nagesh Raj, Mangala Somashekar, Leelavathi, Sadananda, Guruswamy and others were present. (MR/KS)
