National Science Day celebrated at GSSSIETW

Mysuru, March 1:- IEEE student branch and IEEE WIE Affinity Group GSSSIETW, Mysuru, celebrated National Science Day on Thursday in association with IEEE Bengaluru section.

National Science Day is celebrated as science carnival in India every year on February 28. This day commemorates the invention of the Raman Effect in 1928 by the great Indian Physicist Sir Chandrashekara Venkata Raman. The theme of the National Science Day 2019 was “Science for the people and people for the science.”

Dr Shivakumar M, Principal, GSSSIETW,  who addressed the students emphasised the difference between science and technology. He also addressed the importance on how to utilise science for the betterment of life.

Debate competition on the topic “Science for the people and people for the science”  was organised by IEEE student branch. Around 20 students from various streams of engineering participated in the competition. The event was judged by eminent Professors Dr S Meenakshi Sundaram, professor and head, Department of CSE, Dr Vinay Venugopal, professor and head, Department of Physics

The principal distributed prizes and certificates of appreciation to the winners.  Akansha Sivastav, a 6th semester, CSE was awarded the first prize, Safura Zohareen, 6th semester, ISE was awarded the second prize, Madhurya Aithal, 6th semester, ISE and Shishira N Kashyap, 8th semester, ISE were awarded the third prize.

The event concluded with the valedictory function. HoDs and faculty members and students of various departments of GSSSIETW were present on this occasion.(MR)
