The Department of Studies in Commerce, University of Mysore, Manasagangothri, Mysuru, in association Mysore Insurance Institute has organised a National Seminar on Insurance Education in India: Challenges and Opportunities and Felicitation to Micro insurance Awareness and Enrolment Mission (MAEM) volunteers.
The inaugural function will be held at Rani Bahadur Auditorium on July 11 at 10 am. Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore Prof K S Rangappa, will deliver the inaugural address. Sushobhan Sarker, Director, National Insurance Academy, Pune, will deliver the keynote address. P Venugopal, Gen Secretary. Insurance Institute of India (III), Mumbai, will be the Guest of Honour.
Invited experts would initiate deliberations in each of the three technical sessions to follow after the inaugural function. Dr George Thomas, Professor, Insurance Institute of India, Mumbai would speak on Micro insurance and Financial Inclusion, Dr G Kotreshwar would speak on Agri Risk and Insurance Management – Research Challenges, Dr Abhijeet K Chattoraj, Head, Amity Business School, Amity University, Mumbai, would speak on Insurance Education in India – Scope and Challenges.
Dr B Nagaraju, Chairman, Department of Studies in Commerce will preside over the function. The felicitation function to honour the top performers of MAEM will be held on the same day in the evening.
The programme has been organised as part of the Centenary Celebrations of University of Mysore. Under the MAEM programme, 100 villages were adopted from 4 districts coming under the jurisdiction of University of Mysore to educate rural masses about the importance of enrolling under micro insurance programmes.
More than 250 volunteers comprising teachers and M.Com students worked for MAEM programme for more than 6 months organising insurance publicity camps in each of the 100 villages and enrolled more than 3,000 villagers under various Micro insurance programmes.
Dr H Sudharshan, Director, Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra, BR Hills, will deliver the felicitation address and Prof Yashwanth Dongre, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management, will be the Guest of Honour.
