National Youth Day celebrated in city

National Youth Day to mark the 154th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated with great fervour in the city on Thursday.

As part of the celebration, National Youth Week and Youth Day was organised at Nehru Yuva Kendra. University of Mysore (UoM) Student Welfare director M Rudraiah inaugurated the event. A booklet about Swami Vivekananda brought out by the Department of Information and Public Relations was released on the occasion. Social activist Varkodu Prakash, Talakaveri Education Institution head Nalini Thammaiah and Jnana Yogananda Swami of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama were also present.

Various organisations organised various programmes to mark the Viveka Jayanti. As part of the youth day, a huge rally was taken out by the BJP Yuva Morcha members across major streets in the city. On the occasion, Yuva Bharat Sanghatane conferred ‘Vivekaratna Sri-2017’ award to achievers of various fields.  Students of Viveka Vidyalaya in Srirampura took out a rally to mark the day and students distributed booklets about Vivekananda during the rally.
