Need to reach identification of Autism Spectrum Disorders to rural areas: Expert

 Director of Com- DEALL Trust Dr Prathibha Karanth spoke at a seminar on “Advances in the Assessment and Management of Childhood Language Disorders”

 “Efforts should be made to reach identification of Autism Spectrum Disorders, assessment and management to the people in rural areas,” said Director Com- DEALL Trust, Bengaluru, Dr Prathibha Karanth here on Monday.

She was speaking after inaugurating a two day national seminar on “Advances in the Assessment and Management of Childhood Language Disorders,” organised by JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing as part of the birth centenary celebrations of Dr Shivarathri Rajendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt.

Delivering the keynote address she said that the current status of language disorders among children need to be understood in the larger context as there was a growing focus on communication in human life.

Earlier, the communication therapy focused on speech and then language. But now the stress is on communication. Now there is a shift from developmental disorders to neuro developmental disorders. With rapid changes, the issue has become more complex and dynamic. There is also technology that is helping the world al around and we need to use that technology and avail facilities using inventions and help the child. With this focus we conducted a research across the country, she added.

Further she said that reaching identification, assessment and management of Autism Spectrum Disorders to people in the rural areas through FMIP in regional languages, digital platform, school-based units should be our priorities.

Dr Prathibha Karanth highlighted that with advancement in technology there was a need to use it wisely and seek early intervention and thereby aid children suffering from childhood language disorders.
