The bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) in New Delhi on Wednesday passed a set of directions pertaining to the Bellandur Lake matter that included shutting down of all industries in the vicinity of the water body forthwith.
The directive stated that, “No industry will be permitted to operate unless allowed by Joint Inspection Team (JIT). JIT may seal the industries with help of police and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB),”
The National Green Tribunal also said, “No waste – municipal solid, domestic, CMD – shall be dumped into the Lake or in buffer zone (prescribed by NGT) around the lakes. If anybody found polluting or dumping, environmental compensation of Rs 5 lakh per event to be imposed”.
