Force Ikshvaku, the Supra team of the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru participated in the SAE India Supra 2016 competition at the Bhuddh International Circuit, India’s only Formula One track, held from July 4th to 9th at Noida.
The team passed through numerous rounds of rigorous technical challenges and finally was placed at the 7th position all India among 123 institutes including IITs and NITs and 2nd position among Karnataka colleges.
The car was designed and fabricated using the high end facilities available at CNC Training Centre and NIE Eicher Centre for Automobile Technology of NIE.
The student team, led by Shreenidhi Nayak was required to design, build and test its own endurance car to compete in the event. The five-day event required teams representing their colleges to present their vehicles and designs to certified judges. The vehicles were tested to validate its design, its marketability and test its performance on-track. Each vehicle was required to pass a technical scrutiny where half the teams were disqualified. Technical scrutiny included egress, noise, tilt and brake tests to qualify for the dynamic events which were the acceleration test, skid-pad, auto-cross and finally a long endurance run to which only a handful of teams qualified.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering along with the Principal and Management provided stead fast support to the team over the entire period. Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP – II), World Bank, Mysore Polymers and Rubber Products Pvt Ltd, Metro Ford, Bengaluru, Balaji Autotech Pvt Ltd, EduCadd Learning Solutions Pvt Ltd, MK Agrotech Pvt Ltd, Suryamitra Exim Pvt Ltd, PASCAL Systemtechnik Pvt Ltd, Pathak Developers Pvt Ltd, Raghavendra Swami and Shashidharan supported the project by providing financial assistance. The team took technical assistance for the fabrication of the car from Gabriel India Ltd, 3M Car Care and Saifulla Attar.
