No clarity in functioning of Loka Shikshana, complain TP members

Yalandur Taluk Panchayat president and members expressed their dissatisfaction on the Loka Shikshana Committee, formed to educate the illiterate citizens. “Loka Shikshana Committee is not functioning honestly in the taluk. They are producing fake documents and misusing the money allotted,” said the members during general body meeting.

“There are 35,000 illiterates in taluk. Around 4,140 people were supposed to be provided with education by Loka Shikshana. But this is only limited to documents. Taluk Panchayat members have attended the classes, but they found that there are lesser participants than the enrolled numbers. Volunteers are not teaching the participants properly. Even literates are being taught here. Every Loka Shikshana Centre spends Rs 6,250 every month, but the progress is zero,” argued Y K Mole Nagaraju of Ambale panchayat and Bhagya Nanjaiah of Gumballi Panchayat.

Speaking on the occasion, Taluk Panchayat president Nanjundaiah said that they would discuss with the beneficiaries of the scheme. Rechanna of Loka Shikshana agreed to organise a meeting in the coming days.

“Insurance facility is provided to those who have received LPG connection. But it is not known to many due to lack of publicity. Food Department should give publicity regarding such schemes and the facility should be made available to the users,” suggested Taluk Panchayat officer Dr Prem Kumar.

“The amount of food supplied to the Anganwadi centres for pregnant women are less. It is not supplied to the centres on time,” said Taluk Panchayat member from Duggahatti, Pallavi. Children welfare officer Mahesh assured to solve the problem.

“Officials are giving confusing statements regarding releasing water to the Kabini canal. Farmers are struggling due to this. Officials should discuss with the higher officers and solve the issue,”, said TP president.

Panchayat members demanded shifting of the bar situated in front of Ambedkar community hall and close the Government School.

The meeting came to a decision that officials of all the departments should be present for the meeting and those who do not attend the meeting will be issued a notice.
