No water scarcity in Kabini canal this time

“There will be enough water supply from the Kabini canal in Yalandur region,” said Junior Engineer of Kaveri Neeravari Nigam, Ramakrishna.

He was speaking in the meeting held at the Tahsildar office of Yalandur regarding the water supply in Kabini canal.

“Kabini dam has 2,276 ft water-level this time. People of this region have been already informed to grow grains that are grown with limited water. In canal number 1 to 62, water will be supplied except one day in a week continuously for four months,” he said.

“Sub-canals are filled with soil and are not allowing the water to pass through easily. Lakes of the Kabini canal region of the taluk are also not getting filled and as the canals have cement lining, bore wells are also not getting regenerated. Even if they say that water will not be supplied for a day, officials do not supply water for two or three days. Farmers have already grown paddy. Feeder canals that fils up the lakes are also not repaired,” said frustrated farmers.

Taluk Panchayat president Nanjundaiah, vice-president Padmavathi, Tahsildar K Chandramouli, Assistant director of agriculture department Ramesh, agriculture officer Swarna, president of district Raitha Sangha Honnuru Prakash, members of Krishika Samaj Madesh, Kantharaju, Guruswamy, Dundamadashetty and others were present.
