Now carcass of leopard found in backwaters of Kabini River

Mysuru, August 4:- The carcass of a leopard was found in the backwaters of Kabini River in H D Kote Taluk in the district on Saturday morning.

Early in the week, the carcass of a tiger was also found near Antharasanthe range of Nagarhole National Park in the district. Within three days, the carcass of a leopard has been found and this has raised suspicions by the forest department over the animals’ death.

Forest officials from Nagarhole National Park rushed to the spot when few villagers alerted them over the floating leopard in the backwaters of Kabini River. The forest officials are conducting a preliminary investigation and are yet to give an official statement.

The tiger which was found dead in Kabini backwaters three days back was said to be electrocuted, according to the forest officials. However, the claws of the tiger were allegedly removed by villagers but they had left it in the place out of fear.

The netizens and wildlife activists have blamed the forest officials for not protecting wildlife in Nagarhole forests.

A twitter user on Saturday tweeted to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswmay and the Forest Department to go through inspection of what’s happening in Kabini backwaters as the big cats were dying one after another in a short span. -KK
