Prime News, State (Bengaluru), July 11:- The Congress government’s much-talked Anna Bhagya scheme which is meant specially for the below poverty line (BPL) families is facing trouble. From now, only seven kg of rice and one kg of tur dal will be given to BPL card holders.
When the Anna Bhagya schemewas launched in 2013, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced 30 kg rice for every BPL family. As the demand for the staple food from other regions of the state has gone up, it has forced the government to go back on its promise.
With the latest announcement by the Food and Civil Supplies Department, the beneficiaries under Anna Bhagya scheme will get only 7 kg of rice and one kg of tur dal.
The much-publicised and popular Anna Bhagya scheme could have given the ruling Congress a upper hand over its rivals in the next Assembly elections but with the present decision, the Siddaramaiah government will have more than a question to answer.
The rice, meant for Anna Bhagya scheme, it seems, has been allegedly diverted and the government has been accused of playing into the hands of black-marketers.
