The ‘NR Golf Open,’ a state-level event kickstarted at Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club, here Saturday.
The event is held under the auspices of NR Group, makers of Cycle Pure Agarbathies, Mysuru.
R Venkatesh, a member of the Ranga family, inaugurated the tournament by teeing off.
Venkatesh said “NR Golf Championship is an initiative by the organisation to provide a platform for the golfers and encourage the game of golf. Over the years, we have received a tremendous response and recognised various talents. The tournament has become one of the most awaited events in the state.”
Dr M S Ranganath, President, JWGC, said that “The club is honoured to have the NR Group who extensively supported the game of golf through sponsorship and by organising the national level tournaments. NR Open Golf Championship is a platform for the enthusiast’s golfers and also an encouragement to rural golfing talent.”
B M Nagesh, Captain, JWGC; V G Achar, Secretary, JWGC; S Prasanna Shankar, Treasurer, JWGC; A S Somesh, Chairman, Tournament Sub-Committee, JWGC; Dr S L Narayan, Thimmappa Gowda, P C Uthaiah, M S Yashwanth (all committee members of JWGC), A Anantha and others were present.
More than 200 golfers from Mysuru, Bengaluru, Kodagu, Chikmagalur, Ootacamund and Kodaikanal are participating in the two-day event. This year, the participants of this prestigious championship will compete in 15 categories.
