Mysuru February 28:- “Plastic usage is extremely harming the environment. It has to be controlled. But the officials of local administrations have failed in banning plastic according to the government Acts. Plastic use is still active,” said the chairman of National Green Tribunal (NGT), Justice Subhash B Adi.
He was speaking at progress review meeting at the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office here regarding solid waste management by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and other local bodies of the district on Thursday.
“Waste management should be done effectively. Officials have to work efficiently in this direction. The action was expected on solid waste management back in 2016 but local bodies have not got it implemented. Wastes should be divided as wet and dry. Unscientific segregation of wastes causes pollution. Putting wastes aflame releases poisonous gases,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) K Jyothi, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr R Venkatesh, MCC Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde, Dr Muniraju, DDPI Dr Panduranga and others were present. (MR/KS)
