Mysuru, October 25:- “Properties have been ravaged due to floods in Kapila River in Nanjangud. Officials should have a good understanding with the people and get them the compensation from the government,” said District in-charge Minister V Somanna.
He was speaking at the meeting of taluk-level officials held at Zilla Panchayat Hall here on Thursday. He instructed officials to discuss with the concerned MLAs to work in order to help the flood-affected people.
“Prepare the blueprint for the security wall across Kapila River to control floods. I will get the required funds released. It will avoid river water entering the town. This will also protect Srikanteshwara Temple from floods,” he added.
“Karnataka government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to those who have lost homes. No earlier government had provided such funds. Don’t cheat anyone in the name of compensation. You have an opportunity to wipe the tears of the flood-affected people. Don’t make the people blame you by your mistakes. Nanjangud taluk is fast-growing. I will provide all the required funds for the development works. Officials have to be with the MLA to help the public,” he added.
He instructed officials to permanently shift the 40 houses which got submerged during rains.
