Mysuru, February 23:- Renowned musician Kalavathi Avadoot on Monday (February 22) underscored ‘Dasas and sharanas’ opinion that we can see God if we pray to him with true devotion.
She was talking at the JSS Mahavidyapeetha’s ‘Gnanavaridhi-12’ virtual weekly programme. She spoke about Tyagaraja and Purandaradasa’s music compositions.
She said, “Every composition by these giants is a beacon of light for us. All the compositions are simple and filled with total devotion. Purandaradasa laid the path for Carnatic music. Our inner-self needs to be clean for us to see God. Unless we surrender to God, we can’t see him. If we have control over ourselves, we don’t need to chant mantras to please God. This is what Tyagaraja and Purandaradasa propagated.”
Many experts from various fields and the public took part in the virtual programme.
The weekly programme, which is held every Monday, deals with art, literature, culture, science, technology, religion, spirituality, yoga, health and lifestyle. (MR/GK)
