Opposition misleading farmers on agri bills: Minister Sadananda Gowda

Mysuru, October 8:- Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers D V Sadananda Gowda on Thursday (October 8) said the Centre has taken up various steps to help farmers double their income. He said, “The central government has earmarked Rs 1 lakh crore for various schemes pertaining to farming. Increase in minimum support price, Kisan card, digital platform, PM’s Kisan scheme, old-age pension for farmers, crop insurance and many other schemes will definitely help the farmers.”

Supporting the Narendra Modi government’s move to amend the three Acts related to agriculture, the minister opined, “Farmers were suffering for decades because of various problems. The proposed amendments will help them wriggle out of their problems. With the new agri bills, farmers can sell their produce anywhere in the country at their desired price. ‘One land, one agriculture market’ theme will get the boost.”

Gowda added, “The farmland Acts will revolutionise farming sector in the country. There will be uniformity in the country as far as the sale of agriculture produce is concerned. There will be stability in the prices of agri products as well. This will also create more jobs in the future.”

Hitting out at the Opposition parties, the minister said, “They are trying to look for nothing in the farm bills. They are trying to misguide the farmers with a bundle of lies and defame of the central government.”

Gowda said, “They are spreading a rumour that the Centre is withdrawing the minimum support price which is far from the truth. There is no such plan as alleged by the Opposition. The MSP will remain intact and we will try to strengthen it further whenever the time comes. There is no truth in the allegation that agri markets will be abolished and this is being done to confuse them. Farmers’ lands will not go to any corporate. I advise the Opposition not to get exposed with wrong information. I hope farmers will not fall prey to wrong information spread by the Opposition leaders.”

District in-charge Minister S T Somashekar, Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Pratap Simha, Chamaraja Constituency MLA L Nagendra, BJP city president Srivatsa and others were present. (MR/KS)
