Mysuru, June 4:- The state government has decided to construct statues of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and Sir M Visvesvaraya at the premises of KRS Reservoir. Members of Maharajara Mana Ulisi Andolana Samiti submitted a memorandum to the District in-charge Minister S T Somashekar and urging him to ask the government to shelve the plan.
“The project of KRS Dam was planned by British chief engineer Captain Nicholas Bernard Edwin Dawes. He died while trying to rescue drowning labourers. The king appointed Sir M Visvesvaraya as the in-charge of KRS Dam project in December 1909. Sir MV is Bharat Ratna and deserves to be called ‘Global Ratna.’ But we oppose building his statue equal to that of Nalvadi. KRS Reservoir construction went on for 21 years. Sir MV worked for just one year. Seven engineers worked after him. The government should take note of this,” said the members of the organisation. They asked the government not to insult Nalvadi.
