Opposition to separate religion status for Lingayats

Mysuru, December 28:- “State government should take back the order to hand over the request of Lingayats for a separate religion to minority commission and withdraw the committee formed under the leadership of justice Nagamohan Das,” said president of Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha, H V Basavaraj Hinakal at a press meet on Wednesday.

“State government and members of the community are trying to break the religion for the sake of votes. All the members of the committee are prepared to give a report as the state government wants. Members of the committee, SG Siddaramaiah, Dwarakanath, Sarju Katkar, Purushotham Bilimale have already expressed their opinions on separate religion,” he said.

“Das has told that the committee can’t keep both Lingayats and Veerashaivas happy. He told that the committee would consider evidences and opinions. It shows that they are aiming at breaking the community,” he added.

“A mega protest will be organised to oppose the state government and the committee on January 6. A protest rally will be held from Basaveshwara circle at 11 am. Thousands of community members will take part in the protest. Request letter will be given to the deputy commissioner,” he said.
