Reading is the assimilation of the visual data by the eyes, said Prof D G Rao, Principal, RIE Mysuru, while addressing Lakshadweep education officers at a two-day orientation programme on Early Literacy at RIE recently. He stressed on the need for developing reading culture among children right from class one.
Prof G Venkatesh Murthy, nodal officer Early Literacy Programme, RIE Mysuru, explained the importance of implementing Early Literacy activities on sound lines.
Resource person Dr N N Prahallada, Consultant, Early Literacy, explained the various dimensions of early literacy like emergent literacy, pedagogy of reading and writing, morning message, learning conditions of early literacy classroom and reading corners including print rich environment in the classrooms.
Mohammed Nazeemudheen from Kavaratti Island and S M Noorul Ameen from Andrott Island were the education officers who attended the orientation programme. This programme was organised at the request of the authorities of the Union territory of Lakshadweep Islands.
