Mysuru, August 11:- Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and industrialist Murugesh Nirani visited Chamundi Hills on Tuesday morning (Aug 11) and offered special puja to Goddess Chamundeshwari. Nirani Sugars Group has taken over Pandavapura Cooperative Sugar Factory which will start functioning from August 20.
Sporting a traditional Mysuru attire, Nirani prayed to the Goddess for the welfare of all the people of the state. Temple’s chief priest Dr Shashishekar Dikshit offered prasadam to the BJP leader and wished him good luck. Later, Nirani garlanded the statue of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar in the city and offered his tributes. BJP MLA of Chamaraja Constituency L Nagendra felicitated Nirani with a shalya and Mysuru peta.
Speaking on the occasion, Nirani said, “Pandavapura factory had stopped operating for nearly four years. We have taken over the factory to help the farmers. We have got the machinery repaired and the factory has the capacity to crush 5,000 tons of sugarcane every day. Though everything is ready, we are going to wait for a couple of days more before we start functioning from August 20. Besides sugar, emphasis will be on the manufacture of sanitiser, ethanol and electricity. We are also planning to part 70% of the profit with the farmers.”
Speaking on K R Nagar’s Srirama Cooperative Sugar Factory, Nirani said his group has entered the tender process and has bid Rs 125 crore for the deal. “If everything comes through, we may take over the factory.”
On his part, Nagendra said, “Nirani’s move will help the farmers to a large extent. In these testing times, it is tough for people to make a living. With Pandavapura factory set to start functioning shortly, it is good news for the farmers of Mandya district. Cutting across the party lines, many leaders are being invited for the inauguration of the factory. Nirani should succeed in his endeavour so that thousands of unemployed youths can get employment.” He also offered Krishna Janmashtami greetings to Nirani.
District BJP president T S Srivatsa, general secretary H G Girish, Vanish, publicity coordinator N Pradip Kumar, Cable Mahesh, Vikram Iyengar, Prasad, Suchindra and others were present.
Sugar Minister Shivaram Hebbar and seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt symbolically inaugurated the factory at 11 am today. Many members of the Royal family were also present on the occasion. (MR/KS)
