The whole debate over “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” seems to be a frivolous one which isn’t going to make anyone gain anything let alone invoking patriotism.
The controversy over the slogan which is being equated with patriotism has only tried to divide the nation’s people. The Darul Uloom Deoband which issued a fatwa against the slogan and Asaduddin Owaisi have spoken against the slogan and said it violates the Islamic tenet while Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis believes those who do not utter Bharat Mata ki Jai do not have a right to live in India, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev on the other hand who has all of a sudden become a vocal advocate on Indian political issues talks of beheading those who refuse to say Bharat Mata ki Jai only shows how the issue is trying to divide people on communal lines.
More Pranayam and meditation should definitely help him calm himself down.
A few years ago, there was politics of religion and caste when a vast majority of voters were uneducated. However now that the voters are educated and have acute sense of judgement, political parties who have a tougher challenge have resorted to a new strategy to exploit the sentiments of the people by manufacturing controversies over words such as tolerance, nationalism and the like.
Madrasa students being beaten up in Delhi for not uttering Bharat Mata ki Jai only goes on to show how a slogan can cause disharmony which disrupts the peace in our country which is totally uncalled for.
We can only thank our stars as our country is addressed as India and not as “Hindustan” as that would have given rise to more such unnecessary issues and controversies. Before the politicians dig their claws into the word “Hindustan” it is better that we educate ourselves about the origin of the word.
It was a word derived from the Persian word Hindu which referred to the region beyond the Indus River and has nothing to do with the religion “Hindu”.
Making a mountain out of a molehill is nothing new to our political leaders and the media, it is something both are exceptionally skilled at.
No matter what religion one’s mother belongs to, she is worshipped, loved and respected. It’s the same when it comes to one’s motherland.
No amount of coaxing, cajoling and coercing would invoke patriotism. It is something that has to come naturally, it’s something inborn and sometimes cultivated as one grows. if only politicians and parties had any patriotism and nationalism in them they wouldn’t loot the country and divide the people on communal lines.
Merely shouting Bharat Mata Ki Jai doesn’t really cut it, it’s high time politicians and political parties made India an economic superpower than talk about divine powers and divide the nation.
