Poet and lyricist Jayant Kaikini on Monday said that patriotism and ‘dharma’ are being misused a lot these days and many people use it for political gimmick and they don’t have any commitment towards the country.
Speaking at an interaction programme organised by Kannada Odugara Okkuta at Dhanyaloka in the city, he said that nobody can overtake farmers, auto drivers and labourers in patriotism.
He said people who speak about Swachh Bharat, will have the ‘caste’ and ‘class’ garbage in their minds.
Kaikini said real ‘dharma’ is humanity and commitment of people that they will lead a simple lifestyle until equality is restored in the society. He said for him, the life and problems of people is the main subject of his poetry and he doesn’t write poetry for the sake of literary history but for human history.
He took a dig at print media stating that some editors publish the literary works of women only in pages dedicated to women and children. What kind of mindset do they have? He asked.
